THE GATE OF MOON

There are gates of gold and silver
of horn and ivory.
There are gates that lead to earths and lands
that I shall never see.
There are gates of love and hatred
and a gate sealed by a rune.
But the gate that beckons to us all
is called the Gate of Moon.

The gates of moor and mountain
hold entrance to the earth.
The gates of man and womanhood
they are the gates of birth.
The gates of fear and rivalry
can cause a death too soon.
But Oh, the gate I long to pass
is called the Gate of Moon.

The gate of life when I came through
it was a gate of law.
A gate of destiny for me
to match the geas I bore.
But now I watch the road ahead
from midnight to high noon,
and ask of those I travel with,
Where is the Gate of Moon ?

I see it shining in my dreams
and in young lovers eyes.
I see it open up to me
in early morning skies.
Older, now, and wiser
I have found the gate of Rune.
But still I wander, searching yet
to find the Gate of Moon.

The gates of myth and fantasy
are pointing me the way.
The gate that leads to dark Annwn
away from light of day.
I wander through the darkness
There’s a shining in the gloom.
Twixt pillars made of ebony
I find the Gate of Moon.

One last look behind me
one last memory.
One small sigh of sadness
that no one stands with me.
Ahead I hear them singing
they will come to fetch me soon
And I will pass forever
Beyond the Gate of Moon.
