It is the Spring of 2011 and dark times are upon the Earth. In the tiny village of Great Hucklow, amidst the ancient English beauty of the Derbyshire hills, a mysterious King and Queen reach out for learned and righteous figures from across the magical and mystical worlds. Their Quest is to form a company of Souls capable of re-discovering the secrets of the lost art of Alchemy, and translating them for a modern age.

Overshadowed by the physical child of Chemistry to which it gave birth; shamefully covered up by historians of science, Alchemy offered a pure view into the relationship between Man and the Cosmos - and is said to have been capable of revealing astonishing truths about the makeup of each man and woman. This knowledge may help lift the material darkness that clouds the world.

The members of the Quest, under the guidance of the King and Queen, will lay out before the company the fragments of knowledge that remain about this arcane science that is said to have given birth to modern magic itself. In a series of lectures and dramatic workings, much will be taught and much more will be learned. Not only in the rooms of the magical Nightingale Centre, but outdoors in the dramatic landscape of the hills, will the members of the Quest search for the truth that is said to set men and women free.

One of the basic forms of knowledge needed when you begin a study of the Inner Mysteries is that of the World of the Elements. YOU, as a human Being are composed of these four elements. Your physical body is composed mainly of water, (we are basically sea creatures for we evolved from the ocean ) it holds minute quantities of every earth mineral for what we eat contains those minerals and they build our bones, flesh, and physical form. We breathe air, without it we dies, and within us we carry a central core of body heat that keeps us at the temperature we require for our health. So, Earth, Water, Fire, and Air are all present within us from the moment of birth. On our death those components are no longer held together and decay into their natural form.

We use our mastery of these elements in all magical work, but we have to earn that mastery. The elements within our body are under our control, those outside us must be contacted and befriended in order to win their support Some people have the ability to draw these elements to them and earn their respect. Most of these people are what we call The Craft, or witches. Their kind of magical work is 90% to do with the elements.

However those who work in ceremonial magic also need to make enough contact with the elements and elementals to be able to use them in ritual and ceremony.

This workshop is designed to explain their presence in our lives, their powers and dangers and the correct way to use them in ritual conditions.

EARTH: elemental King is GHOB, The Angelic Ruler of the element is Uriel
WATER: elemental King is Nixa, the Angelic Ruler in Gabriel.
FIRE; elemental King is Djinn, Angelic Ruler is Michael.
AIR; elemental King is Paralda, the Angelic Ruler is Raphael.

There will be pathworkings and individual rituals for each elements and an inclusive ritual using all the elements on the Saturday night. Please bring a suitable robe or caftan with you and some soft slippers. Everything else will be provided.

We live in a magical universe, we are magic beings yet we imprison ourselves with the manacles of disbelief. Why?

If we allow ourselves to believe there will be nothing left to wish for, hope for, search for or discover. Magic is all around us and it is as natural as breathing but human beings have hedged it around with gestures, movements, symbols and names.In many ways we are still children afraid of the dark, the darkness within ourselves.
To account for this inner power we invented ritual and have used it ever since as a ladder on which to climb to perfection as a species.

Ritual: the word invokes the idea of chants and altars, incense and strange symbols and the speaking of the barbarous names of power. But what really is ritual? Why does it make us believe in magic? Where did it come from? And …. Do we really need it.?
In this workshop we will try to trace the whole idea of Ritual back to its beginning and see how its tools and symbol came about. Does it really create power, or is it simply a means of focus. What kinds of ritual are there, why do they differ from country to country and race to race?  Can anyone work magic if they have a ritual?

We will look at the composition of Egyptian , Greek, Celtic, modern Pagan and ancient Craft. The ways and means of opening and closing sacred space. At the possibility of working in cyperspace. What is the difference between what we think of as ritual in ancient times and now in 2011?

We will conduct mini rituals showing how they differed from tradition to tradition, and the power of ritual as it was portrayed in Greek Theatre and how Voice came to be the main magical tool.
What part do God forms, angels, and other beings play in ritual?  The magic of patterns and movements in a temple. Does sex play a real part in magic and if so why, and how. We all know how ritual affects us, but why does it affect us? What is the inner power we all have and yet seldom use? These are things to which there has to be answers, at least in part.

The fee for The Practice and Purpose of Magic is $175.

We don’t really know what Light is, we know it is a form of energy and it moves faster than anything in our universe, ( only it doesn’t need to move because it’s everywhere at the same time and point of the universe!)and we know that Matter and Light are similar in many ways.Light is made of particles, called photons from the Greek ‘Photos’ but they are more than little dots of energy.

We use light for many things. We colour it, hide it, refract it and diffuse it, but we still don’t know what it is. What we see when we look at things is not what is really there. Light particles hit the world around us and scatter in all directions. When we look at an object,the eye collects the reflected particles and passes them to the retina and lens. Each particle carries information in the form of vibrations of varying speeds.This information is sent to the visual centre of the brain to be de-coded. On receiving the information the brain looks for a matching pattern, and having found one passes the decoded pattern to another part of the brain that tells us that what we are looking at is a cherry tree in full bloom, but what is really in front of us is a group of vibrating photons arranged in a special way. All this occurs in less than one billionth of a second.

When speaking of a Body of Light what do we mean? An Astral form, a Spirit or what? The term has been mis-used for years. But now we can look at Light in a way that gives us a better understanding of  it and  further our knowledge of the Spirit World .

We will explore:
The Etheric & Astral bodies. The Aura, its Colours and Meaning. The Creating of a Body of Light in the Lower World. The Primal Spark and its Destiny. The Body of Light in Literature. The Visionaries. Its use in Magical Training.  The Body of Light through the Spectrum.

The Ancient Triangle of Religion: Comparisons between Mesopotamia, Chaldea and Egypt.

The earliest religion of which we have any real recorded history is of Mesopotamia. It is certainly older than that of Egypt, maybe older than the Chaldean, but little is known or recorded of the last named. It is possible that it was earlier than the Mesopotamia, but we cannot be certain. What is certain is that these three belief systems are the source of Western Religions.

Though there are similarities between these three and the religions of the East, we have no actual record of them extending into the Orient. Therefore we will keep to the Western systems.
The God-forms and their creation stories are amazingly similar and all contain the conviction that there was an influx of genetic material from an outside source into the human species. The term, “ when the Gods walked the Earth”, comes into the spiritual and everyday life at every turn. Whether it is the descent of the Annunaki, the infiltration of the Star People, the Bloodline of The Elder Horus entering the Pharonic dynasties or even much later in time, the story of the Sons of God and the daughters of men.
This influx will be one of the main themes of the workshop, for from it stems that important moment in time when humankind stopped wandering and began to plant seeds and raise cattle. When the need for numbers and symbols that spoke silently to the mind became a necessity.

Until then Gods had been simply unexplainable  ‘events’ that happened either in rotation like the seasons or spasmodically as in earthquakes, floods, and battles. Now it was needful to explain the world around them and make sense out of the things they could not understand.  They needed to make something or someone responsible for the good and the bad times, so religion came into being and with it the Beings they came to call the Gods.
In this workshop we will look at the way in which The Gods came to be, comparing each of the three very different viewpoints.  Some of the Gods were shared if not in name then in disposition and power. But out of this Triangle of Power came every other facet of the Western way of belief. It is a wonderful story of strength, will, acceptance, and finally an intuitive understanding of their own Divine Heritage.  This is the story of how humanity came to be its own saviour and its own Creator.

The above inscription could be said of every human being, but how many would claim it knowingly? Has the time come when we can do so?  Quantum Physics might explain, illustrate, and enable us to understand magic as a science in its own right and always has been.  More than that it offers a new way of training the mind and opens the door to a deeper understanding of how the human brain can extend its present range. It does not mean we all have to be scientists or math geniuses it just offers a new look at an ancient way of thinking.

We can understand the reality behind the equations not the equations themselves. As magicians we are trained to see beyond the everyday world and understand symbols in a different way to scientists.  They seek to understand, we seek to become.

Humanity was created to evolve towards perfection and we have done well especially in the last 100 years when we have achieved more than in the previous 500 years. Quantum Physics could constitute that next step. The magical mind is fully capable of knowing itself to be a living and self- aware particle within the universe on all its levels. It may be that space and time travel will be possible via the mind or possibly in conjunction with the physical.

It will be a journey of discovery for all of us. Join me- if you dare!
